Wearing 3D Glasses

I love watching 3D movies, but I hate wearing the 3D glasses. I wear prescription glasses, so I always have to make sure I’m wearing contact lenses before watching a 3D movie. Wearing the contacts is not my issue, but there has been times where I have forgotten to wear them. I would then have to wear my glasses with the 3D glasses on top, which is very uncomfortable. I recently found a solution online, but it’s just an idea.

The Flowers of War – Movie Review

The Flowers of War is by far the best movie I have ever seen in a really long time. I’m not the type of person that likes sad war movies, but this one is different. The story is based on a novel, which is based on real events. It’s not, however; based on a real story. Nonetheless, the characters are easy to connect with. I will not write about what the movie is about because I really don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

I will admit that I started crying after the first 10 minutes. In total, I cried around 5 times. I rarely cry during movies and if I do, never have I cried as much as I did that day. It now seems that the movie is too sad to go too, but it isn’t. The movie led me to research the real events that happened. I was surprised that a lot of the sad things were actually real.

The beauty of the movie is that 2 hours passed by, but it didn’t feel like it. Each scene from the movie could be turned in to a picture, but not any picture, one that is flawless. The movie is directed by Yimou Zhang. It’s the first time I see any of his movies, but I think I’m hooked to his way of filming. It’s just so beautiful. You’ll understand once you see the movie. The main character and the only known one is Christian Bale.

Snow White and The Huntsman – Review

The movie was really good. An excellent movie. What brings it down is the fact that everyone and I mean everyone falls under Disney’s spell. Disney movies are set into a certain time frame. In every single movie, the events happen at the same moment. That is what makes them so addictive. We’re used to the pattern. It’s safe and we always know that it will end happily ever after. Since I have watched Disney’s Snow White and so many other Disney movies, it ruined this movie for me. I knew it was a fairytale, so my mind is strictly set on Disney’s standards. So, if my Disney standards have not been met, then I’m not satisfied. I wish I knew less of Snow White because I really believe I would have enjoyed it more.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation – Review

Honestly, this movie would have been much better if the title wasn’t so long/boring. I really wouldn’t have watched it if it wasn’t that Mel Gibbson was in it and he hasn’t been in a lot of movies lately, so I was curious.

With Mel Gibson doing himself no favors in the public media over the last six years, this movie is a much-needed reminder of why he was so great. The movie captures everything we truly loved about Gibson’s performances: charm, wit, humor, and edge. The script by Gibson, director Adrian Grunberg and producer Stacey Persky is an original that can very easily be considered an unofficial sequel to Gibson’s cult favorite, Payback. This movie is about a career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities and placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy. While Gibson’s character never reveals his actual name, he possesses a chain-smoking habit, sticky fingers, an iron jaw, and a penchant for bloodshed. A thrilling movie, well-paced, and good action sequences.

UPDATE It turned out the movie title in the US was Get The Gringo (a much better name).

We Bought A Zoo – My Thoughts

I loved it. It’s such a feel good type of movie. I left the cinema feeling great and motivated to take an adventure. That’s what’s so amazing about it. The movie is not complicated, and it has a big meaning behind it. It stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Elle Fanning. Its based on a true story about Benjamin Mee who after his wife’s death decides to buy a zoo. His family moves with him to the countryside where there are very few people. He decides to renovate and re-open the struggling zoo.

One of my favorite quotes in this movie is “you know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.” -Benjamin Mee. It’s what Benjamin based most of his life on. He did things on a whim and they usually worked. It’s such a motivational quote. I really recommend watching the movie.

Review- Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

Mission Impossible isn’t a typical action movie. I don’t remember watching the first 3 movies, but this new one is worth watching. The most interesting scenes were the ones shot in Dubai. The opening scene in Dubai shows the massive sand dunes in the Emirati desert, and then zooms in to the team’s car. It shows that they were about to run into a group of camels walking in the middle of the street. The mistake was that the street had fences on both sides that prevent any animals from leaving the desert and any cars from entering. How the camels ended up on the street is a mystery to me. Also, Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, and his team checks in into 130th floor of Burj Khalifa Hotel. However, Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa occupies below the 40th floor. Ethan Hunt starts chasing after Wistrom, his enemy, through a sandstorm. It was coming from the front of Burj Khalifa, yet when they exit out front, the storm hits the building from the back. Both weren’t wearing anything that covers their faces. Ethan later wears goggles and raps a scarf around his mouth and nose while Wistrom just covers his face with a scarf. They ran and drove separate cars for more than 5 minutes without coughing or pausing once because of the storm. It’s impossible to be able to breathe in that type of sandstorm, let alone run or drive! The dust cloud then passes by really fast and the sky becomes clear in a few seconds. That is impossible. That’s because a similar sandstorm happened in Kuwait in March of this year. It’s a really rare type of storm and it lasts for hours before it clears out and it’s impossible to be able to do anything outdoors.

Overall the movie is worth watching, especially in IMAX.

Puss in Boots – Review

I went to see Puss in Boots two nights ago and I was slightly disappointed. I had not expected anything out of it, but in the start of the movie I realized that it might be similar to Shrek. It turned out it wasn’t. It had the same concept, but the jokes weren’t as good. It’s about how Puss’s life was like before he met Shrek. It’s such a cute story, but I wish they made it a bit funnier. Being a cat-lover, I left the movie wanting a cat so badly. I will never forget the days when I used to have 2 cat and 4 kittens. Not kidding, and I had them all at the same time. Those days are gone now. It would have been so cool if this movie came out several years back. I know that I would have bought them boots! Anyways, it’s a movie worth watching, but I guess the demographics were set out towards kids.

Abduction – Movie Review

I haven’t been to a good movie in a very long time. Seriously, who would have thought that the little kid from Sharkboy and Lavagirl would ever be this famous. Taylor Lautner was in the Twilight movies, but I think that Abduction was his first lead role.

The movie is a thriller centered on a young man who sets out to uncover the truth along with his friend, played by Lily Collins, about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website. It’s the type of movie where you don’t know what’s going on halfway through, but when you figure it out, you want to find out what happens in the end. It’s a must see.

Rise of The Planet of The Apes – Review

The movie The Rise of The Planet of The Apes was amazing! It’s directed by Rupert Wyatt. This movie is a reboot, with elements of a remake. The reboot follows the mythology of the original series, but updates it in order to improve some of the weaknesses of the original films. I haven’t seen the old movies or series, so I wasn’t expecting much from the movie. It turned out really good because it’s the type of movie where you want to know what’s going to happen. I really didn’t expect the ending. That’s something really important to me whenever I watch a movie. Overall, I think the movie is worth watching!

Mr. Popper’s Penguins – Review

The other day I went to see Mr. Popper’s Penguins and it turned out really good. It’s based on a novel by Richard and Florence Atwater. The movie is funny, but it’s all because of how Jim Carrey acts. If you have seen his other movies you’ll notice that he uses similar jokes. It’s the type of movie where you expect the ending, but it’s  fun to watch. I suggest going to it, but don’t look forward to seeing something special.
