Plague By Michael Grant – Review

It’s hard to admit this, but I wouldn’t have been attracted to read this series if it wasn’t for the cool covers. I mean, who wouldn’t fall in love with the neon colors used for the sides of the pages.

Anyways, Plague is the fourth book of the Gone series by Michael Grant. The characters in the book are around 15, but their actions make them seem much older. It’s because people 15 and over suddenly disappeared into another dimension. Hence, GONE. The younger ones found a way not to disappear, so the kids who were turning 15 survived the POOF, which makes them the adults. They’ve survived hunger. They’ve survived lies. But the stakes keep rising, and the dystopian horror keeps building. Yet despite the simmering unrest left behind by so many battles, power struggles, and angry divides, there is a momentary calm. But enemies don’t just fade away, and in the quiet, deadly things are mutating, and finding their way free. The amazing thing with this series is that I started reading it when I was much younger, so the reading level is low for me, but that never stopped me.

KinoKuniya Dubai Mall

Every time I go to Dubai, I have to pass by Kinokuniya. Its one of the biggest bookstores I have ever been in and it has everything I look for! I wish we had a bookstore like this in Kuwait. We desperately need something like that. I got so many books and I can’t wait to read them.

I have been waiting nearly 6 or 7 months for one of the books to come out. I finally got it from there and I think it was the last copy! The book is called Lies by Michael Grant. Its part of the Gone series and its the 3rd book. I actually posted about it awhile back. A bunch of the other books I got were by the author Dorothy Koomson. I blame Danderma for getting me hooked up with Koomson’s books!;p She’s such an amazing author.

Better than Twilight?

GONE

I just finished reading the book  Gone by Michael Grant. It’s the first novel in a six book series that starts off with a bang. Or, should I say, with a poof?

“In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what’s happened.Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day. It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else…”

“Even at 558 pages, Gone is a pretty quick read. Despite its length, though, there isn’t much character development, something I’m willing to let slide since it’s plenty entertaining on plot alone and this is the first book in the series, setting things up for future books. For readers who like action or who just want to be entertained, the lack of extensive character development won’t be a problem, as Grant manages to sustain the fast pace by combining multiple sources of suspense—why did people disappear? What do the hours and minutes running down before each chapter mean? Why can’t the kids leave? Will they have enough resources to survive? What caused all the superpowers and mutations? —in such a way that enhances the momentum of the story instead of bogging it down. And while some questions are answered, there are still a lot of loose ends.”

I truly believe that this series will be better than twilight.. I’m just waiting for any producer to find out about these books and turn them in to  movies!

here are the titles of the 6 books:

1. Gone (i read it and LOVED it)

2. Hunger (Getting it!)

3. Lies ( will be published on May 2010-  can’t wait!)

4. Plague (the author is still writing this)

5. Darkness ( the author haven’t started writing this yet)

6. Light ( the author haven’t started this one too)
